About Us
Las Casitas was founded in 2004, as the Las Casitas - Superadobe Earth Shelter Teaching Initiative, working to teach disenfranchised migrant workers how to build earthen structures to replace their cardboard shacks. The training also included installation of solar PV to provide light. During the project's launch the initiative received international attention which shinned a light on the deplorable living conditions of the workers. The training initiative brought hope and dignity to the men who work in our fields, and as a result of media attention new permanent housing was built for the workers.
Today, Las Casitas has expanded its mission and is bringing healthy, regenerative living education to a broader community. In 2013, we launched The Water Weaver's Project in order to collaborate with local non-profits, water districts and schools to raise awareness and offer solutions on the importance of capturing and reusing our regions precious water. These programs showcase simple, low-tech and beautiful solutions in interpretive demonstration sites. These sites provide each community educational program, workshops and guided tours of the system, strategies and gardens that benefit from the water harvesting systems. We also provide consulting and support to schools and non-profits working to create a program, curriculum or demonstration site of their own. We are actively seeking grants and donations to support selected groups who seek our assistance. Our built projects are called, The Water Weavers' Project Landmark Site, and will create a web of water harvesting sites throughout the County. As we grow our dreams into reality we invite you to join us in our basic, yet revolutionary work of capturing water, building shelter, growing food and building community. Las Casitas is a 501c3 Public Benefit Corporation and all donations are tax deductible. Contact us here for more information. Directors
